H/t to Milky from the last thread:

http://datatitian.com/why-voxs-numbe…

Vox’s numbers for all of them seem screwy to me.

Beat me to it. I also would like to note that there’s no evidence that Vox addressed the implications of Cruz’s VAT proposal.

I’d hope they’re wrong. Because according to the Vox calculator, Sanders’ tax plan shows it being more effective to quit my job and move us to a lower tax bracket than to keep working. The calculator shows literally my entire yearly earnings just in taxes.

Well that kind of is his strategy. More on government assistance means more voters towards him

Canadian residents must feel the same thing I feel when voting season comes around.

I will not speak for its accuracy, but according to that calculator I’m paying about a BMW 3-series more every year under a certain goofy, bad haired, extremist than I am under a certain other goofy, bad haired, extremist.

You may say that, but remember the personal expense SAVINGS that come with that increased tax rate. So gle payer health care alone will SAVE the average single person in the neighborhood of $4,000 a year vs private health care plans. I have 100% paid healthcare from my employer, but his costs under Sanders’ plan for down vs. Private healthcare too, leaving the option to RAISE my pay, and or hire more employees (making my job less stressful) a raise in my pay equal to my employer’s current healthcare cost minus his payroll tax increase would not quite offset my higher tax rate, but the Sanders plan comes with other advantages beyond just healthcare, including improved infrastructure (lower auto maintenance costs and improved access to public transit), free (or at least greatly reduced) college costs, which will not effect me personally, as I have already paid off my college loans and do not plan on having children, but it’s a huge deal for many people. We’re also looking at increased general population health and education leading to better performance in global income competition. Please note, Sanders’ plan doesn’t actually EXPAND wellfare. People will still have to work, but they will receive more government services and spend less on average out of pocket to live healthily and productively. Also, even if NONE of this was true, I find it deeply troubleing that so many people seem unwilling to help those less fortunate than themselves. I have, to an extent lived the American Dream and come up in the world from living in my car at one point, I wouldn’t say “no” to more wealth, but I also realize that my standard of living as it is, could easily help support people less fortunate or able than myself without significant impact to my personal happiness.

Yup, if there’s any truth to it, fuck bernie. I’m taxed to death as it is anyways. Anymore and I will need government assistance.

Makes no since to tax those who are in the middle class. Tax the rich more. Leave me alone.

It’s not that I’m unwilling. But, I make $30,000 a year at my job. And that’s good in my area. But with Sanders’ tax, my wife and I would be paying $21,000 a year in taxes. How could I keep working and make $9,000 a year? I'm fine with helping the needy, but what about when it makes ME one of the needy?

Wait what? $21,000? The calculator is broken. I make about 60k a year, which is about 60th percentile for my area, and the Sanders plan, according to to that calculator should increase my tax burden $5700/year, while saving my employer about $4000 a year vs his current 100% paid health expense, making it less expensive for him to employ me at my current salary... Are you sure you didn’t misplace a decimal? If you didn’t them that calculator is clearly wrong.

My wife and I make $65,000. Ish. According to the calculator, we paid $14k-ish in taxes, and Sanders’ plan would add nearly $7k to that. So, that's $21k. Subtract that from my $30k salary and boom, $9k.

So, do you have 100% employer paid healthcare? If not add what you currently spend per year on that back Into your calculation. How’s that look? If you do.. Well, that’s unusual, and it surely looks dire on the surface, but your employer should actually save money, even after the additional payroll tax (which the Vox calculator actually rolls into its calculations and calls "your tax burden" even though it's technically your employer's burden... Which then REMOVES the burden of healthcare cost, for a net savings to them.

I pay per paycheck for my healthcare, not sure what 100% paid healthcare means? Sorry, I’m new to this healthcare stuff. I went without it for a long time when I was in college. I do know my health insurance sucks, but I don't pay all that much for it.

100% paid healthcare means you never see a bill or deduction for it, your employer pays the entire cost of the plan for you and your “cash” salary is on top of the cost of the plan. That’s my situation, and is very rare these days... I'm a lucky bastard... So whatever you pay per paycheck for your private (and no doubt shitty, hell, mine may be fully paid, but it's still got a $5000 deductible...) plan can be added back into your cash income figure.
